An Update

With disappointment, Susan Morris (former camp director) and I have decided to postpone the alumni reunion at camp until 2021. We were and are so excited for this gathering. We are dreaming of a large and inclusive gathering, with people traveling from great distances to be together at Friends Camp. Unfortunately, this kind of gathering won’t be possible this summer. Because of possible travel restrictions and the need to plan travel early, concerns for visitors who are in at-risk categories, and the physical restrictions of being together at camp, we know that we won’t be able to host an event that is as safe and as inclusive as we need it to be in August.
Since I know you will wonder, we have not made an official call yet about summer sessions for youth at camp this summer. Our camp committee is actively considering what will be safe and possible for youth camp, as we wait for recommendations from the Maine CDC and the American Camp Association.

My heart is with you and your loved ones as you navigate carrying on through this pandemic. I wish that we could be together around a campfire this summer!

Moving Forward
We are looking forward to continuing to plan the reunion for 2021 and gathering together in person after this pandemic. We will host a few alumni gatherings online in the coming months; we hope to see you there! You will receive this information by email and in the Friends Camp Dinosaurs Club on Facebook.

Money Matters
If you have already paid your fee for reunion, I can send you a refund by check as soon as you confirm your mailing address by email. If you are able and willing, perhaps you might be able to donate a portion or all of your fee to Friends Camp. We know and understand that this crisis has affected us all differently, and some may not be able to spare any portion of these funds. As we walk into uncharted territories this summer, we know that we will need to raise significant funds to help carry Friends Camp through. If you are able, perhaps you can chip in a bit to help guarantee that Friends Camp is around for the next 67 years of campers?

With gratitude for the wonderful community of Friends Camp alums,

Reunion Information:

We are eager to invite Friends Camp alumni to a reunion in August, 2021! Since we are delaying this reunion from 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have not determined the dates or details for our 2021 gathering yet. The vision for this reunion is to offer alums a return to camp: the opportunity to re-experience camp’s magic, a chance to reconnect with the people & places that made camp special, and a time to reflect on how camp has impacted our lives.

The reunion will be hosted by Friends Camp, using camp resources and staff members. There will also be opportunities for alums to volunteer to help the weekend run smoothly by offering programs, cleaning, and more.

Some of the activities offered will be:

  • Variety Show
  • Dance
  • Campfires & singing
  • Arts & Crafts
  • Vespers
  • Evening Games
  • Memorial event for campers who have passed away
  • Waterfront: Open swimming and boating times
  • Discussion groups
  • Programs for young people offered by Friends Camp staff
  • Alumni merchant tables: If you make art or something else, you are welcome to bring it along and sell your wares

You will have an option to stay at camp or to stay at a nearby hotel or other rental property. You are “on your own” for lodging if you’d like to stay somewhere other than camp, but here’s a list of suggested locations. A note on housing: Friends Camp has limited, rustic facilities for guests. If you plan to stay at Friends Camp, please plan on a shared living space, a “camp” mattress, and a walk to the bathroom. Tents will be available for families who prefer to camp.

Tuition/ Cost of Attendance:

Friends Camp will use a multi-tiered and accessible tuition model for this reunion. Campership funds are available for those who cannot afford the registration fee. Please do not let money hold you back from joining us at this reunion. Please contact Anna at director@friendscamp.org for tuition assistance.

Included in registration:

  • A reunion t-shirt.
  • All meals, plus plenty of snacks.
  • Lodging in shared camp cabins (unless you are staying off camp).
  • Transportation to and from the bus station in Augusta, Maine if needed.
  • Part-time programming and child-care for children.

A few important notes:

  • Friends Camp is an alcohol- and drug-free camp. We ask that you respect rules around substances and camp property. To smoke, please walk to the edge of the property along the road. It is important that we keep camp smoke and substance free.
  • This reunion will be held rain or shine; however, certain weather events may make tent camping impossible. If that occurs, we will do our best to accommodate those who planned to stay in tents.
  • We want this reunion to be as accessible as possible. If you have an accessibility question, please contact Anna (Camp Director) at director@friendscamp.org or (207)-877-4302.
