Friends Camp Committee 2019-2020
John Reuthe, Clerk, of Vassalboro Friends Meeting, manages the Mid Maine Home Energy Savings Program under the Sustain Mid Maine Coalition. He worked his way through college as an assistant camp director.
Robb Spivey, the camp Treasurer, is a member of Brunswick Friends Meeting. He is a land surveyor by day and a steel pan player by night.
Travis Belcher is a member of Monadnock Meeting and New England Yearly Meeting. He is experienced in finances and in buildings & grounds. He is a believer in outdoor experiential and group learning.
Stephen Ball lives in Western Massachusetts and is a member of Mount Toby Friends meeting. He is the parent of a former Camper. He worked for many years as a facilities manager in scientific research and teaching labs and as a public health inspector.
Carol Baker is a member of Westerly Friends Meeting and parent of former campers and camp counselor. Carol is active in NEYM youth programs as cook for youth retreats and grade group leader for JYM at Yearly Meeting Sessions. She feels honored to be involved in supporting Friends Camp, which has played a large role in her family’s journey.
Obie Philbrook is a former Friends camper from 1979 through 1985 and a Portland Friends Meeting attender for his whole life. Currently, he has a private psychotherapy office in Portland specializing in transgender related issues. He lives in Yarmouth, Maine is happy to be a current camper parent!
Edie Keller lives in Waterville and is a member of Vassalboro Friends Meeting. Camping is part of her heritage, and she grew up going to summer camp as a camper, counselor in training, and counselor. During the school year, Edie is a librarian at the Mitchell School in Waterville, where she shares stories and literature with children grade K-3.
Molly Kaviar is a former Friends Camp camper and counselor. She is from Louisville, KY and recently moved to the Boston area. Molly is a graduate student studying Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning at Tufts University, and she has a background of non-profit work in Kentucky. She is excited to continue her long history with Friends Camp as a member of the Committee!
Deirdre McClure is a Friends Camp parent and new to the committee. She is happy to help this wonderful and important camp to grow and thrive. She is a musician who leads choruses and orchestras in Maine and New Hampshire.
Erik Philbrook is a current attender of Wellesley Friends Meeting and a former attender of Portland Friends Meeting, and a former Friends Camp camper. Erik is married with two kids, both of whom have been campers as well. Erik works in Asset Management and serves as the Finance Clerk of WFM.
Doug McCown is a Portland Maine Quaker whose children attended the camp. He is involved with Friends School of Portland, ProNica, and Friends Committee on National Legislation, all Quaker organizations.
Natalie Bornstein is a former Friends Camp counselor and camper and is happy to continue her work with camp as a committee member. She works at the YWCA Central Maine as the Social Justice and Advocacy Manager. Natalie lives in her hometown of Lewiston, Maine and loves being out and about in the community, spending time with family and friends, and her cat, Baby Kitty.
Karin Wagner is a former Friends Camp camper and counselor, and attends Portland Friends Meeting. She is a small animal veterinarian and has served on the board of the Friends School of Portland. She is grateful to be able to give back to a camp that has been a powerful influence in her life.
Beno Chapman is a current Friends Camp and Cambridge Friends School parent. After a multi-year career in large-scale technology endeavors, Beno decided to focus on the local the technology community and now works with the Waltham based Constant Contact helping small business and nonprofits. Beno lives in the Boston area with his family.
Kate Monahan is a former Friends Camp camper and counselor who recently moved to Boston from Philadelphia. She is the Shareholder Engagement Manager at Friends Fiduciary, a Quaker, non-profit, socially responsible investment firm, and is a Quaker Voluntary Service alum. She is grateful for the opportunity to support a place that shaped and supported her.
